The Lenzing Group has introduced a groundbreaking three-tier fiber system aimed at transforming the protective wear industry. This new portfolio, known as Lenzing Solutions for Protective Wear, combines advanced fiber technologies to deliver a balanced approach to safety, comfort, and sustainability. At the heart of this system are LENZING™ FR fibers, which provide inherent flame resistance, and TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers, which enhance comfort and environmental performance. This marks the first time that the industry has access to an integrated fiber system capable of supporting inherent, hybrid, and flame-retardant finished fabric solutions within a unified framework.
The three-tier structure has been designed to address varying industrial needs. The inherent protection tier uses LENZING™ FR fibers blended with materials such as aramid to ensure permanent flame resistance, making it suitable for high-risk environments like firefighting and military applications. The hybrid protection tier incorporates TENCEL™ Lyocell A100 fibers combined with modacrylic to improve comfort, visibility, and efficiency. Meanwhile, the FR-finished protection tier uses TENCEL™ Lyocell Standard fibers treated with flame-retardant finishes to provide cost-effective solutions for industries such as steel and welding.
In addition to performance, sustainability is a key focus of the system. Both fiber types are EU Ecolabel-certified and derived from responsibly sourced wood, reinforcing environmentally responsible production practices. Independent testing has shown that garments made with LENZING™ FR Fibers can significantly reduce heat stress, lowering the rise in core body temperature by 29% at 35°C compared to traditional FR-treated cotton. By combining advanced functionality with sustainability, Lenzing’s new Fiber system represents a major step forward in the evolution of protective textiles.
